    Disposition:
★ LOGICAL — As a skilled and highly respected prosecutor, Edgeworth both relies heavily on and places significant value on his capacity for logic and reasoned thought. As he tells his colleague and rival, Phoenix Wright, "When you've run into a wall with no place to go, return to the basics" — those basics being testimony and physical evidence, from which a solid conclusion can be built. Where other Ace Attorney characters display varying flavors of courtroom style, Edgeworth's hallmark is that he rarely, if ever, relies on flashes of intuition or baseless conjecture; he makes his case point by point and is able to command a courtroom effectively. However, his insistence on logic does come with its detriments, such as Edgeworth's stubborn insistence that spirit channeling (a proven form of quasi-magic in the Ace Attorney universe) is all entirely made up on the grounds that it's a logical implausibility.

★ EMOTIONALLY RESERVED — Edgeworth is not one for big, expansive displays of emotion; he prefers to keep his feelings suppressed, and early on in his development arc even calls his feelings "unnecessary". Even at times when he displays a sense of humor, it's an exceedingly dry one, and he generally presents with a sort of aloof, superior air. However, he does have his moments, such as when he discovers a witness has been unthinkingly withholding evidence that links a renowned hitman for hire to a murder case he's prosecuting; upon his discovery of the same, Edgeworth gets visibly angry and chastises her for what she's done. This tendency to keep his emotions suppressed is part shyness that he possessed even in his youth, and part the result of the upbringing he had under his strict and perfectionist mentor, Manfred von Karma. As von Karma was a man who didn't tolerate weakness or failure in any way, Edgeworth had a high bar of impassivity to live up to in order to meet his approval.

★ HONORABLE — though Edgeworth is initially introduced as the rival character to the game's protagonist, Edgeworth consistently displays a strong sense of honor, justice, and loyalty. In one case, he raises an objection against his own side's interest simply because he knows deep down that the witness being questioned is more culpable than she's letting on, but the protagonist has already exhausted all of his available options at bringing the truth to light. When Maya Fey, the protagonist's assistant, gets herself held in contempt of court to stall a verdict that would've pronounced him guilty of murder, Edgeworth immediately pays her bail entirely by himself. In later installments of the game, Edgeworth's commitment changes from a desire to achieve guilty verdicts to a desire to ensure that the truth comes out; as he says himself, "Our job is to find truth, no matter how painful it may be." Where once he cared only about racking up convictions on his prosecutorial record, by the end of the series he has stopped viewing court proceedings as one side versus the other, and rather as two halves of a whole working together to achieve a just result.

★ EXTRA — To say that Edgeworth can be dramatic is a bit of an understatement. Like Phoenix Wright himself, Edgeworth does his own fair share of desk-slapping, finger-pointing, and vocal objecting while in the courtroom. However, Edgeworth's tendency to take things to extremes goes far beyond the courtroom. At a time when his worldview is shaken by corruption in the justice system he serves, he somehow decides that the best course of action is to up and disappear with no warning for an entire year, leaving behind only a note that reads "Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death." Edgeworth's willingness to go the extra mile also extends to feats such as singlehandedly coordinating a massive police manhunt for Maya Fey after she is kidnapped while simultaneously prosecuting a case involving one of the people related to the kidnapping, chartering a jet and flying nonstop from Europe in the dead of night after he's told that Phoenix Wright is in the hospital, and "arranging" for a handpicked judge and prosecutor just so that he can act as temporary defense counsel, which he is not qualified to do, just because Phoenix asked him to. When Edgeworth decides on a course of action, there is no middle ground; he commits himself to it ten thousand percent.

    Under pressure:
Understandably, the most significant change that Edgeworth will experience in Noctium as compared to canon is the new necessity to form emotional connections with people for survival. Though he's not an emotionless robot by any means, Edgeworth is guarded when it comes to his feelings and frequently struggles with expressing those feelings to others. He's the type to try to make his sentiment known in indirect ways, either by action or implication; some of this is legitimately because he's just that kind of person, but it was certainly exacerbated by the murder of his father when he was nine years old, and his subsequent upbringing under Manfred von Karma, who was in fact the person who murdered his father to begin with, and who raised him for fifteen years with the plan of someday framing Edgeworth himself for murder as well. Furthermore, the murder of his father coincided with a significant earthquake that left him trapped in a dark elevator for several hours, and which left him with a paralyzing fear of earthquakes as a result. Suffice to say, between the need to achieve Synchrony with others (making him vulnerable on an emotional level as a result) and the fact that there are going to be devastating earthquakes occurring once a month, he's in for a rough time getting adjusted. However, it's for exactly that reason that developing him in this setting will be an interesting challenge, forcing him to confront his hangups about connecting with others and forging a support network for himself that will allow him to grow in a meaningful way in spite of the initial challenges he'll face.

    Condition upon arrival:
At his stated canonpoint, Edgeworth is in generally perfect physical health, but he's a bit emotionally unstable, due to the fact that an unexpected earthquake has just recently caused him to temporarily black out from PTSD and inadvertently allow a woman suspected of murder to escape his custody because of it. He'll have some feelings of guilt, frustration, and other repressed emotions to deal with as a result of that, but otherwise he's physically fine.

    Abilities:
Save perhaps one exception, Edgeworth is a normal human being with no supernatural abilities to speak of. He is, however, a skilled prosecutor of above-average intellect with significant familiarity with the legal system. He possesses significant leadership qualities and has no problem taking charge of a situation, such as when he singlehandedly mobilizes an international task force to hunt the assassin Shelley de Killer. Given the time he canonically spends in Europe, it's likely he's able to speak at least a few additional languages such as French and German. He's good at chess, can drive a car, and seems to have at least some skill in carpentry, demonstrated when he's able to create a plan that will allow a bridge to be built across a canyon to reach a missing person trapped on the other side.

The one semi-exception is that, when Edgeworth is in possession of a magatama (a sacred charm charged with spiritual energy), he is able to perceive when people are lying or hiding information from him. This deception appears in the form of a "Psyche-Lock", a metaphysical set of chains and padlocks that seem to crisscross in front of the subject in question. If Edgeworth is able to piece together a portion of the subject's secret, the Psyche-Locks will break, and the subject will admit to the truth and elaborate on the previously-kept secret in question. The magatama is capable of running out of spiritual energy, but this only occurs on a scale of years, once its been initially charged by a spirit medium.
